"We were stunned with by all the amazing animatronics, they are all so lifelike and you could easily tell that each Dragon had their own personality. The story behind this show was of true friendship and love. But the visual excellence of the Fire Breathing and High flying Dragons alone is reason to pack up the kiddos and not miss this event."
"By the end of the show it was almost hard to believe that the Dragons weren't real, and I wanted so badly to ride one ( I need more Viking training or so I'm told). "
"The 11am show opened with Hiccup, the lovable central character telling us about his life among the vikings (with whom he's not considered brave enough to hang) who live to slay dragons. We were introduced to the fascinating multi-media show where Hiccup is drawing on the stage below and we see the results of his work on the giant screen at left, real-time. The impact of the sounds and movement of both the "movie" portion combined with real actors is something I've never before experienced and won't soon forget! It's magical."
"How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular was amazing. The full arena is used with barely a corner unused. We were all transported to the small Viking village and felt the breathe of the dragons breathing down our necks as well as they soared above the arena. The cinematic projections interacted with the story seamlessly and added so much more to the storyline. The dragons were just mesmerizing. You really could see every muscle move as they walked or flew across the arena. The animatronic technology was nothing like I have ever seen before. This beautiful tale of an unlikely friendship between a Viking boy and a laser throwing dragon was brought to life before our eyes tonight. It's really not to be missed!"
"The performance itself was phenomenal. It incorporates live theater with acrobatics, high wire stunts, amazing visual graphics on both the floor and stage wall and of course, robotic dragons."
"Some of my favorite moments were when Hiccup ran across the countryside, a high wire acrobatic performance done entirely on the stage wall. There were great shadow puppets projected as they were performed live."
"This show lived up to it's name, as it was truly spectacular! From the very beginning of the show, we were drawn into Hiccup's world and entranced by the incredible dragons that surround him daily. Gigantic animatronic dragons are used in the show, as well as pyrotechnics and a phenomenal projection screen that catapults you into the scenery as if you were actually there. The show was action packed and full of amazing special effects. We were thoroughly entertained!"
"I can't say enough about how amazing the show is. The story follows the film version faithfully and it was incredible how they were able to make dragons fly, breath fire and come to life"
"After the show we moved down a few seats to front and center for "Dragons 101″. It was a great opportunity to learn all about the production and be amazed at the detail and technology that goes into a production of this magnitude."
"The first dragon came out and you could hear everyone take a breath. If it was not for the rigging that was holding up the dragon I could have sworn that this show brought them right to life! Every movement and blink of the eye was so perfectly detailed children were squealing in delight. I have seen many Broadway shows but as soon as the dragons came out I knew this was the most over the top experience I had ever been to."
"Within the story line are great jokes for adults to laugh at and enjoy. This show is not just for kids. The suspense and different elements of storytelling along with the shadow puppets telling about each dragon was beautifully executed! I loved all the different types of performances they included in this show; they are truly what make it a spectacular."
"How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular is a one of a kind experience and event for your family to enjoy and treasure. There will be so much to talk about on the ride home you will want to come and see it again!"
"My family just saw” How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular” in Pittsburgh we were nothing short of amazed and mesmerized. This is defiantly a show for the entire family. My husband and I were so entertained we were thrilled as we watched our children’s faces as they were amazed over and over again by the magic of the show."
"Before I say anything about it, let me just point out one little fact. I had CRAZY high expectations. I loved the movie and I had already seen one of the dragons in person. Between those two little facts, I had made up my mind that it was going to be The! Greatest! Live! Show! EVER!!!!
Way to set myself up for disappointment, right?
WRONG.
It lived up to my expectations and even exceeded them."
AMAZING... is the first word that comes to mind after seeing "HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON LIVE SPECTACULAR." The show is one like no other Macaroni Kid agrees that it is a must see! We attended opening night and were amazed and blown away by this show! If you have dragon lovers in your family this is truly a must see! Our press seats were amazing, but I can honestly say there was not one bad seat in the house. The shear size of the Dragons makes every seat feel like front row! The actors, lighting, sound and story line kept our family engaged for the entire two hours - which is saying something with a 4 and 15 year old! People have said that this is a show for all ages, I would have to agree - everyone around us young and old sat in amazement the entire show. The dragons truly come alive right before your eyes! I would highly recommend this show - you will not be disappointed.
If you are looking for a fantastic show for the whole family to enjoy, then, How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular will not disappoint at all! My family and I went last night and was immediately mesmerized with this breathtaking production as we were transported into a mythical world of fire-breathing dragons, that come in all shapes and sizes and soar overhead.
The state of the art animatronic technology and large-scale panoramic projection screens interact seamlessly with the actors, or should I say Vikings, who bring this heart-warming story to life using theatrical storytelling, acrobatics, martial arts, even hip hop dancing. We loved how this unique show utilized full use of the venue and maximized every dimension of the performance space. It is a show not to be missed!
I had high expectations for How to Train Your Dragon. Boy, did they not disappoint. We all left amazed. The whole time I was watching, I felt I was in the show. Many times we bring our children to shows for their amusement, this time it was just as much for the adult as it was for the child. No child needed to watch this show – Promise!
My daughter, who is hard to please, was entranced the whole time with the lifelike dragons and the actors who played Hiccup and Astrid. Must note – Astrid is her favorite!
Perhaps my imagination isn't where the creators of the live show is – but I would never had thought of using the techniques that they did to make it so realistic. Walking on Walls, Flying in the air, fire and bubbles.
Would I recommend this show to anyone? YES . You didn't need to watch the movie to understand the show. Many times it is hard to make an animated movie into a production, considering one with huge dragons to contend with – but they managed it with precision. I didn't feel like I missed any of the movie at all while watching the show.
"Combined, for example, like when Toothless starts flying, it gives the illusion that he's flying at speed and that the world is almost 3D real…it's quite a remarkable feeling when you see it in the center as I did."
"But the entire thing actually played out like a videogame: he would climb on a projected ladder which would suddenly crumble; he would jump on a cliff which would crack and split causing Hiccup to fall onto a tree which would bounce him across the stage to another cliff top. It all felt like the world's most expensive videogame.
"If you have kids or just want cool spectacle, this is definitely the one to see."
"The huge animatronic dragons which amble around the stage, leap and soar overhead are stunning in every detail from the blinking eyes to the twitching tail. One could imagine if dragons ever existed, this is what they might have looked like."
"The video screens are a huge part of the show taking the action from burning Viking Villages to sweeping ocean vistas, to the bowels of the fiery dragon's lair."
"The high point, of course for anyone familiar with the movie, is when Hiccup flies on the back of Toothless."
"I cannot tell you the last time I walked out of a live performance and was just about speechless when trying to sum up the experience!"
"This vivid and realistic liveperformance will make you question if dragons are really just a creature of our imagination or if they really do exist. From amazingly realistic animatronic dragons to the amazing special affects that bring you from flying through the air to being in the water you will be on the edge of your seat and in awe the entire time."
All of my kids were in awe the entire time and I have never seen my son so intrigued by anything before. My son asked me if we could go and see it again. My 7 year old daughter who is not normally a fan of what she calls "boy things" loved it as well."
"Go! Go! Go! It's truly something you will never forget!"
"The Show was amazing. 3 Years in the making with DreamWorks, the results were simply breath-taking and awesome. I have never seen a live show make such great use of the entire stage arena. Every area of the stage was used either as a prop, background or staging area. The stage itself was the entire arena floor. The Dragons were something right out of a Hollywood movie. The special effects really brought the show to life."
"My kids were absolutely amazed the entire time they were watching it."
Ticket prices are family friendly and worth every cent. I would highly recommend checking into the tour dates and see if this show is available to you. It was worth the hour and a half we traveled to see it."
When you have an opportunity to see a dragon fly you don't say no. You know that dragons can flight, right? I'm not talking about a movie, but live in person. I saw dragons fly and you can too in Dreamworks How to Train Your Dragon Live.
Like many families, we have watched the Dreamworks movie many, many times. The adventures of Hiccup, Toothless and the Vikings continually bring the awes, gasps and cheers. My sons favorite parts involve the dragons. From battle sequences to soaring flights, the dragons steal the movie.
This week in Chicago the dragons from the beloved movie take flight in the United Center in How To Train Your Dragon Live. This show definitely captures the thrill, adventure and heart of the movie. The show follows the storyline that we all know with a few modifications. The designs, technology and artistry make the audience feel as if they are in the scenes of the movie (the underwater scene is incredible).
My family was given the opportunity to see the Dreamworks animation production How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular at the United Center last night and it was incredible! My daughter can't stop talking about it! We've never seen anything like it! If your kiddos are a fan of the movie then they will be thrilled with the Live show…I know we were! The dragons were incredibly realistic and going by the "oohs" and "ahhs" coming from my daughter and the audience I was not the only one that thought so!
I was also very impressed by how creative they were with the set. It was largely devoid of props, I assume because the huge dragons needed room to get around.
Tonight my family and I headed out to the United Center to the opening night performance of How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular. Using animatronic dragons, pyrotechnics, martial arts, cinematic projections and acrobatics, the Academy Award nominated animated movie was brought to life right before our eyes! 23 dragons (some with wingspans of up to 46 feet), Viking warriors and world-class circus artists and acrobats kept the audience mesmerized.
My family has not seen the movie before so the story was new to us. I enjoyed the message that not everything is as it seems and if you treat someone (or a dragon!) with respect and love you might discover a true friend.
Flying and fire breathing dragons, break dancing Vikings and awesome special effects were some of the things that my eight-year-old son Sean and I loved about going to see Dreamworks How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular last night at the United Center here in Chicago.
There was a packed house on opening night and you could feel the energy and enthusiasm of the crowd. The audience was very engaged, clapping and cheering throughout the show.
Having four children you can imagine what a night out can mean to our family. It's not very often that we get to take the kids places but when we get out we try to attend memorable events that will have them talking to their friends and build memories to last a life time. We attended the How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular show last night and it was nothing short of Spectacular. From Dreamworks and the Creators of Walking with Dinosaurs for the first time 23 larger than life dragons, a large cast of epic warriors, and creativity like you can never imagine brings an award winning film to life.
So last night my family and I got to attend the "How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular" show at the United Center in Chicago. First I should say we have not seen the movie "How to Train Your Dragon" so we probably did not appreciate it as much as fans of the movie. With that being said, we absolutely loved the show. It was a show totally different than anything we have ever seen and my boys were in awe.
The show has so much in it from live singing and dancing, to animatronic dragons and amazing light displays. The story was about Hiccup wanted to prove to his father that he can slay a dragon. Well he found himself having a dragon as a best friend and it goes onto the Dragon Games. The story is easy to follow and the show was just so lively in general with the music and singing (think "West Side Story" meets dragons.)
Last night we went to see the How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular and I was completely blown away. We saw it at the United Center in Chicago(which I was really impressed how clean and updated it was) and had awesome seats. Not too close, not too far. If you have the chance to get tickets-go. We have been to a lot of live shows in the 15 years of being parents and my husband and I were blown away. It was by far the best live show we have seen. It's interactive, loud and super fun! The characters were right out of the movie and the use of projectors to create a fantastic backdrop was AWESOME. When Hiccup was running he was actually strapped to a harness and running up the wall but it really looked like he was running on the path up the hill. When the dragons breathe fire you can feel the heat. My 5 year old was enthralled! Even my 12 year old was. Thank you Dreamworks for putting such a fantastic show for huge fans of the movie. It was a fantastic, fun time. Definitely lived up to the hype. I can put into words how much we loved the show with out sounding over-the-top. My sister actually won tickets and brought my nephews who are uber-fans of the movie. (They basically go zombie when it's on). My nephew who's 3 was a little scared at first (my sister said she thinks he was expecting a cartoon) but with in minutes was totally into yelling at the stage and having a blast. They were sitting across the center from us and I could see his reactions, it was so cute. One of my favorite parts of the night was watching my 12 year old. She is a member of the stage crew at her school and has become very skilled at her jobs (she even got to run the sound board her first year) and she was fascinated at all the timing that was involved, and since she knows how hard that can be, was very impressed.
"I feel like I've been dropped into the middle of a video game."
That's the thought that came to mind not too far into the How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular at the Verizon Center last night while watching the character Hiccup running on the screen wall, simulating climbing up a mountain, at times stumbling on rocks and falling on tree branches, all in perfect, although perpendicular choreography. In what they call a "full arena experience" DreamWorks makes use of every square inch of performance area. The floor, ceiling, and a wall of screens that is the equivalent of nine movie screens are part of the set as well as all the air space in between — not just for flying dragons, but to create an entire underwater sequence, filling the air with blue light and lighted bubbles. For a few minutes, the audience of the Verizon Center was underwater along with Hiccup and Toothless. The blurred lines of participation and performance continued throughout How To Train Your Dragon Live as audience cheers and screams became part of scenes such as the Dragon Games, and characters "broke the fourth wall" several times.
My family was invited to see Dreamworks animation production How To Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular at United Center and my kids and I could not stop ooh-ing and ahh-ing about it. Besides the heartwarming story of the boy and his dragon, the animation, lights, and music alone stole the show. The realistic looking fire-breathing and flying dragons are just among the many reasons why you should not miss it. Your kids will leave the show believing they've seen some real dragons!
The dragons were amazing…23 in all…and so realistic. Some were HUGE, some were small, but they all really moved well and looked the part. True-to-life dragons if you will. They jumped, they played, the split fire, the flew in the air, and the characters even rode them, making the show even that much more impressive. They really looked like they were part of the cast.
The actors were great, very fun, personable, and athletic. All the right ingredients for a show such as this one.
It was so good that my kids not only waited for the intermission, but stayed up until the show was over! I think that was a first.
Go. You won't be sorry. I promise.
It is definitely called "Spectacular" for a reason!
The set was stunning and so creatively done.
Wow. I went to the show on Thursday night and it was truly unique and amazing.
The size of the dragons was jaw dropping…they blink, they walk, they breathe smoke and fire and they fly overhead.
The show was absolutely amazing!
The show is really a sight to behold
It was the special effects that really made the show memorable….I highly recommend you go see the show if you can!
Spectacular is a good way to describe this show!!! It was truly an amazing event that will keep the kids (and adults!) entertained from start to finish!
It really was spectacular. What a wonderful show!
Your kids will leave the show believing they've seen some real dragons!
My kids summed up the night in a single word, awesome.
The dragons were incredibly realistic and going by the "oohs" and "ahhs" coming from my daughter and the audience I was not the only one that thought so!
To say I was blown away is an understatement!
The dragons — well, there are no words to describe them. I could not believe how life like they were.
Friday night we headed to the United Center for fire breathing action on the Isle of Berk in ‘DREAMWORKS HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON LIVE SPECTACULAR'. And it was A. MA. ZING.
It was by far the best live show we have seen. It's interactive, loud and super fun!
It was a show totally different than anything we have ever seen and my boys were in awe.
We all expected to be wowed with MAJOR animatronics on a larger-than-life scale and not one of us was disappointed!
By the end of the show it was almost hard to believe that the Dragons weren't real, and I wanted so badly to ride one (I need more Viking training or so I'm told)
The live production rolls fire-breathing action, epic adventure and heartfelt laughter into an original captivating story set in the mythical world of Vikings and wild dragons.
Definitely recommended if you want a night of good clean fun.
The entire show was a feast for the eyes and ears.
When Toothless and Hiccup first take flight, you could almost hear the crowd holding their breath.
All of the cast did a fantastic job of making you feel like you were part of the performance.
It's a remarkable family date.
All your favorites are here in life-sized action.
‘Wow!' is probably the last word you'll hear from them as they become totally immersed and transfixed by the wonder of it all.
My kids were absolutely amazed the entire time they were watching it.
3 years in the making with DreamWorks, the results were simply breath-taking and awesome.

This vivid and realistic live performance will make you question if dragons are really just a creature of imagination or if they really do exist.
'How to Train Your Dragon' calls itself a spectacular and spectacle – and it's exactly what you get.
A sensational blend of film and animatronic dragons along with live actors, pyrotechnics and lasers creates a sense of entering a world of Vikings.
Like I said in my first blog post about ‘How to Train Your Dragon,' I had high expectations. Boy, did they not disappoint. We all left amazed at what we just finished seeing.

The actors were perfect, never missing a beat that you or I would catch. I was sad when it ended and I had to return to reality.
Would I recommend this show to anyone? YES. You didn't need to watch the movie to understand the show.
This was truly a magical afternoon that was enjoyed by the adults as much as the children.
The show more than lived up to expectations!
"How to train Your Dragon Live Spectacular" is a wonderful experience for the whole family and for lovers of the movie and first-timers alike.
